Foresthill Community Pool
Foresthill Stingrays Swim Team:
Swim Team Participant and Parent Expectations:
Welcome to the 2009 Swim season! The goals of our team are to improve individual swimming strokes and techniques, to promote and develop team spirit, and to have FUN! Foresthill is one of six teams in the Sierra Foothill Swim League. We swim against each team one time each season, and then all six teams compete against each other at Championships. Practice Schedule: 8:00 - 8:45 am 7-10 8:45 - 10:00 am 11-18 3:30 - 4:00 pm 6 and unders 4:00 - 4:30 pm 7-8 4:30 - 5:00 pm 9-10 5:00 - 5:45 pm 11-12 5:45 - 6:30 pm 13-18 Practices are available Monday through Friday. Swimmers are expected to practice as much as their summer schedule allows. If you are unable to attend practice because of vacations or other commitments, please notify the coach. Please be sure to have your swimmer to practice early, so they can be ready to START practice on time. Communication with the Coach:
In order to allow the swimmers the most benefit from their practice times, please do not talk to the coach during practice times. You can always leave a note for the coach in the message box at the pool, and you will receive a prompt response. Parent Meeting:
We will have a mandatory parent meeting at the beginning of the season. This is when the coach can communicate important season information. This is also the time to sign up for your favorite parent job at the meets! Team Swim Suits:
The Foresthill Stingrays Swim Team colors are red and black. A team suit is not mandatory, however, it looks sharp and it makes it a little easier to find our team at the meets. You can order suits through our team, or choose what is best for your swimmer and your family. Team suits will be available for purchase at the pool. Time Trials: Family Message Box: Swim Meet Participation:
Our team must present our final meet entries (events that each swimmer will swim) on the Tuesday prior to each meet. For that reason, it is very important that you inform the coach if you will NOT be attending the next meet by Monday prior to the meet! Otherwise, other swimmers may miss out on certain events, because of missing team member. Parent Participation:
Swim meets are unique in that there are many jobs involved with running a meet. For this reason, parents from every team participate in each meet, doing some sort of job for about 2 hours. (Each meet starts at 9 am and ends at approximately 3 pm). We require each FAMILY to volunteer 12 hours during the entire season, which works out to be 2 hours per meet (including Championships). You don’t need any special skill for most of the jobs, and you will be trained for each position. It’s best if you choose one job to do throughout the season. The various jobs are:
Computer Data Entry, Stager, Timer, Line Judge, Lane Slip Runner, Snack Bar Helper, Age-Group Parent, Stroke-and-Turn Judge You can “buy-out” of volunteering altogether with a $200 fee, which enables us to hire individuals to help at the meet. (By the way, these jobs are usually kind of fun, and since you’re watching the meet anyway…?) Meet Day:
On the day of each meet, we ask that you arrive by 8:00 am to check in. There will be a Stingrays Check-In table near the pool entrance. Here you can check-in your swimmer, and also check in for your volunteer shift. Warm-ups are held before the meet, and each meet begins promptly at 9:00 am. Stingrays 2009 Schedule May 26 Practice begins June 5 Parent meeting - 6:30 pm Suit purchase - 6 pm
We hold Time Trials at the beginning of the season. This is an opportunity for parents to “rehearse” their jobs at the meet, and for swimmers to set base times with which to determine seeding for the first season’s meet.
Your family will have a file in the Family Message Box, where your swimmer’s ribbons will be placed after each meet. In addition, this file is used for important communication between the coach and families. Please check the box every day that you go to the pool.
We ask for a “Volunteer Deposit” upon registration. This check will be retained by our treasurer throughout the season, and helps guarantee that families will fulfill their volunteer commitment. At the end of the season, your check will be returned to you if your requirement has been met. If not, we will deposit the check in order to pay for additional help at the meets.
Fund raising:
In order to help defer costs to families and raise much-needed funds for the pool, we would welcome anyone who wanted to organize fund raisers throughout the year. These provide a significant source of funding. If you have ideas and want to organize some fun with the kids and the community, please contact the pool - 367-2909 (foresthillpool@gmail.com)
